Game Notes: Spotsylvania Downs Orange 7-2

Friday night's game Spotsylvania vs Orange ended in a 7-2 win for Spotsylvania.  Jon Rivard picked up the win going 5 innings giving up 1 earned. Trevor Croson closed out the game for Spotsy with 2 clean innings striking out 3 on no hits.  Spotsylvania's offense had 10 hits with Senior Dante Fairchild leading the way with 3.  Max Harper and Jonathan Olsberg had 2 hits apiece.

Orange County scattered 8 hits on the night. Junior catcher Keenan Williams and CF Guempul had 2 hits apiece.

Spotsylvania looks poised to make another deep run in the state tournament this year after losing in the state semifinals last year.  

Here's a list of players who stood out.

Max Harper– 6'2″/200. VMI commit. The senior RHH makes consistent loud contact at the plate.  Shows ability to drive the ball to all fields.  Moves well around the bag at first base with a above average arm.

Dante Fairchild. 2018 uncommitted Centerfielder is off to a good start at the plate.  Logged a HR in first game and was 3-4 against Orange. Has good range in CF.  6.9 runner.  Speed plays well on the bases with good instincts.  Quick hands at the plate. Shows ability to drive the ball.

Jon Rivard– 2018 uncommitted RHP/OF. Rivard is a potential 2-way player in the 2020 class due to a 2 year mission after high school.  Athletic.  6.9 runner with a strong arm and good carry from the outfield.  Hits from the right side with a line drive approach.  Shows power at times. On the mound he repeats his delivery well and shows good command.  FB mid 80's with a BB at 70. Competes. 4.1 student.

Eugene Snyder– 2018 uncommitted RHP.  Eugene is a big frame RHP with a FB that has topped at 89 early this season. FB has good downhill plane with arm side run.  Firm slider with good depth. Projectable. Solid uncommitted RHP in the 2018 class.

Trevor Croson– 2019 uncommitted RHP/SS. LHH.  Interesting 2019 player on the mound.  Repeats his delivery well.  Arm works long and loose. Good command. Throws curveball and changeup for strikes with good feel. FB 82-83.  Arm projects well.

Keenan Williams– 2019 uncommitted Catcher. 5'10/180. RHH.  Williams has a solid pop time in the 1.94 range. Quick transfer from behind the plate with a good arm.  Receives well. Shows good instincts and controls the running game. From the plate he generates good bat speed and has feel for the barrel. Solid 2019 catching prospect.
