Uncommitted Spotlight: 2019 Jake Wortman

Jake Wortman – 2019 grad out of Fredericksburg, VA, Colonial Forge HS product who is a switch hitting catcher and third baseman. Well rounded kid and baseball player, very hard worker, and has excellent grades. Shows big time potential at the plate with a short and compact swing from both sides of the plate. Posted an exit velocity of 99 mph at the 2018 Dynamic Skills combine this spring. He has a tall, relaxed stance with hands set high and good rhythm. Gets great separation, short stride with the front foot and a simple and compact swing with great body control. Has ability to use all fields with really simple but effective approach at the plate. Does a good  job of getting hands extended through the ball. Stands out at the dish. Behind the plate he shows decent blocking ability and an above average arm posting a 1.95 pop time at this years skills combine. Also a decent runner at 7.0 60 time. To add to skillset, he has recently been 86-88 on the mound. Strong kid with an athletic skill set and lots of tools with room to grow. Lots of talent with big time potential at the next level.
